8 Steps that will Help You Become an Event Planning Pro- Step #1 Decide

One of the most important skills required for ministry in the local church is the ability to plan.

  • Planning the yearly ministry calendar
  • Service planning
  • Event Planning- Baby Dedications, Baptism Services. Theme Events, Outreaches

Over the next few days, we’ll dive into  “8 Steps that will Help You Become an Event Planning Pro”.  We’ll be focusing specifically on Event Planning.

Here’s Step #1 Decide.

The first step in deciding anything is to ask God for wisdom.

James 1:5  “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Now, ask the Holy Spirit to lead as you answer a few questions.

Write down the answers to these questions.

  • Why does this event need to happen?
  • How will this event contribute to the overall vision of the church?
  • Who is your audience?
  • What is the purpose?
  • What are your top 3 goals? Be specific.
  • What would make this event a “win” for your church?
  • Are you equipped to do this well? Do you need a consultant to help?
  • Do you have enough time to do this well? What is your time frame?
  • How much do you imagine it will cost? (We’ll look at this more in Step #2)
  • H ow will you pay for it? Do you have budget for this? Are you able to charge $ or raise funds/ get donors or sponsors?
  • Is this event the best use of your time and energy?
  • Is this the best way to accomplish our goal? If not, what would be better?

Take a look at this list. Is it clear to you that this event is necessary? If not, pray some more. Make a list of pro’s and con’s. If you’re still not sure, maybe this event is a great idea, but wrong timing.

If you are ready to move forward with the event, go on to Step #2.

So, what do you think?
