Creating an Atmosphere of Worship at Home

Psalm 8:1-2 The Message (MSG)

1 God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.

2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you;
toddlers shout the songs
That drown out enemy talk,
and silence atheist babble.

There’s nothing sweeter or more powerful than when children worship the Lord. How can we raise our children to worship God?

To create an atmosphere of praise and worship in your home, here are a few things you can do:

1. Acknowledge God throughout the day. Teach your children to thank Him for what He has made. When you step outside, say “What a beautiful day God has made! Isn’t He so creative? Look at the trees and the birds and the people. God is so good!”

2. Allow your children to catch you spending time with God. If you pray and read the Bible in the morning, maybe you could leave your Bible on the kitchen table so your kids can see it. This will help them to see that your focus is on God.

3. Make God’s Word accessible around the house. Write Bible verses on note cards and put them on your refrigerator or the the bathrooms. Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.

4.  Use CD’s, DVD’s, ipods,  etc to help focus your child’s attention and energy toward God. Whether we mean to or not, we tend to worship the things that get the most of our time, money, and attention.  Children sometimes spend up to 20 hours per week in front of a television.  Play songs like these from seeds family worship while you’re cleaning up the house, or dancing around the living room. They will be  a valuable tool in your home for teaching your child to worship God. For older elementary kids/ preteens, check out ishine

Here are two of my favorite worship DVD’s for kids.

For Preschool- Little Praise Party by Yancy

For Elementary- Hillsong Kids DVD’s– These DVD’s are great because they show an auditorium full of kids worshiping the Lord.

So, what do you think?
