Art Devo for Your Family- Trials and Disappointment

Has your child faced a trial or disappointment lately?

Pushed around by a bully?

Not being chosen for the team?

Un-invited to the party?

Is your family facing challenges?

Job loss?

Sudden medical issues?

Try this family devotion. Create together. Pray together. In a little while, you’ll look back and remember God’s goodness together.

We try to line everything up just right.

We plan it out. Do our best. Take a risk.

Line up crayons on canvas. Hot glue to hold in place.

Instead of the perfect scenario that we imagined, we are challenged.

Taking the heat of rejection, persecution, disappointment, or loss.

Hold hair dryer a few inches away from crayons and watch them melt.

God tells us to consider this moment as a gift. He is using this momentary struggle to develop perseverance in us. This will make us stronger.

James 1:2-5a (The Message) 2 “Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. 3 You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. 4 So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. 5 If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help.”

Our faith life shows its true colors. We don’t give up. We try again. We trust God and choose joy.

Print and cut out a colorful silhouette of anything active that represents joy and endurance- dancing, skateboarding, jumping, etc. Glue silhouette beneath the crayon rain.

Father, when we are under pressure and don’t know what to do, please help us. Develop maturity and endurance in us. We trust you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
