Snow Day! How to Make Snow Ice Cream Tutorial and Family Faith Talk

It takes a lot to cancel school in Minnesota. We pride ourselves on being tough and braving the elements. But for thousands of happy children across the state, school has been cancelled today! Even though my children are home schooled, I’m letting them take the day off too.

In celebration of the new 8.5 inches that have fallen over the past 24 hours, I thought I would post a super simple and delicious Snow Ice Cream recipe. Our family made this recipe  right before Christmas. (No, our Christmas tree is not still hanging out in our living room in March. Although, I would probably keep it up if I could…)

This recipe comes from Paula Deen. Paula knows how to make everything, doesn’t she?

First, start with 8 cups of freshly fallen snow. For my southern friends, you can used shaved ice from your blender.

Next, pour a 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk over the snow.

Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

Mix well.

Serve immediately. Enjoy!

As your kids enjoy the snow ice cream, share this verse.

Psalm 119:103 NIV “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Say, “Just as this ice cream is sweet, God’s Word is also sweet. The Bible tells us how much God loves us. It helps us to be wise. When we read and obey God’s Word, it fills our whole life with sweetness.”

Or, this one?

Isaiah 1:8 NIV “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Say, “The Bible tells us that when God forgives us for the things we’ve done wrong, he cleans us up and makes us white as snow. Isn’t his love and forgiveness so sweet?”

Happy “Snow Day” from our home to yours!

So, what do you think?
